What Keeps Bringing Locals Back to Sagebrush

Date

April 24, 2026

Read Time

3 min

40 minutes from Kamloops, and 90 minutes from Kelowna, Sagebrush sits above Nicola Lake on 400 acres of Douglas Lake ranchland. People tend to come back year after year to play Sagebrush. The course has something to do with it, but it’s not the whole story.

Sagebrush is built on a simple idea: fewer tee times create a better experience. With intentionally limited starts, the course feels open and uncrowded, giving your group the sense that you have the place to yourselves. Wide fairways that follow the natural slope of the land, firm and fast, with room to play and room to think.

The Course

The course rewards creativity over power, and that’s something you earn through replay rounds. The first time around you’re getting acquainted. The second time, the slopes start working for you instead of against you. Position off the tee matters more than distance. Touch around the greens wins over brute force. Sagebrush is one of those rare courses that genuinely gets better the more you play it.

Rod Whitman shaped Sagebrush to follow the natural contours of the land — fairways wide but directional, conditions firm and fast, greens open in front but exacting when it comes to position. The first round introduces the terrain. The second reveals how slopes, angles, and safe misses start to work in your favour once you stop fighting the ground.

The Hideout

Golf is the reason you come to Sagebrush, but what you stay a full day for isn’t what you initially through. The Hideout sits below the 13th tee beside a stocked trout pond. Old Fashioneds, darts, a line in the water while the group rehashes every hole they’d play differently. The food is as good as advertised. It’s only natural to stay longer than you planned to.

There’s also the Double 8 chipping course and the Badlands putting green, a breather between rounds that ends up being its own thing entirely. Some friendly competition, a place to settle your bets, and just getting dialed in.

The Local Rate

For those within 150 km, there’s a local rate worth knowing about. To get special rates, book your tee time online within 10 days of your round, bring a government ID at check-in, and you’re on the first tee. It’s Sagebrush’s way of making sure the people closest to it get to play it.

It’s 400 acres of BC ranchland built around a simple idea: fewer tee times, better experience. Golf stripped down to what it’s supposed to be.

Come for the round. Stay for the rest of it.
